After a few hours of walking, a break is necessary in your list of things to do in Essaouira.

The Experience: Test a traditional hammam or a high-end spa using local argan oil. The black soap and eucalyptus scrub will give you all the energy needed for the end of the day.

In 2026: Essaouira's spas are renowned for the excellence of their natural treatments and their soothing architecture.

Light

8. Walk Along the Beach at Sunset

Essaouira's beach stretches as far as the eye can see. At the end of the day, the light there is exceptional.

The Experience: Walk with your feet in the water or take a dromedary ride along the dunes. The sunset over the Purpuraires Islands is a moment of pure poetry.

Activities: If you still have energy, surf and kitesurf schools offer unforgettable "sunset" sessions in 2026.

Neighborhoods

9. Explore the Historic Mellah District

The Mellah is the old Jewish quarter of the city. It is a poignant testimony to the peaceful cohabitation of cultures in Essaouira.

The Experience: In 2026, thanks to major restoration programs, one can visit magnificent synagogues and discover the history of the Jewish families who made the city's prosperity.

The Atmosphere: Calmer and more melancholic, it is a place that invites reflection and respect.

History

Morocco's Ecosystem and Biodiversity: A Heritage to Preserve (2026)

Morocco is not just its arid landscapes. In 2026, the preservation of Atlas wetlands and forests has become a national priority.

Whether you are near the roaring Ouzoud waterfalls or in the lush freshness of the Ourika valley, you are traversing unique biodiversity sanctuaries.

Arboriculture, the pillar of the rural economy, unfolds treasures there: century-old olive trees, majestic walnut trees, and further down toward the Essaouira coast, the famous argan forest, classified as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.

Wild Fauna and Endemic Flora of the Atlas

During your excursions in 2026, keep your eyes open. Moroccan wildlife is as discreet as it is exceptional:

Village Immersion and Solidarity Cooperatives

Traveling through Moroccan nature also means meeting rural communities. In 2026, solidarity tourism has strongly developed. Women's cooperatives producing argan oil or organic cosmetics are essential stops.

By buying directly at the source, you not only support the financial autonomy of Berber women but also guarantee the survival of traditional cold-pressing techniques.

Take the time to talk, share warm "tannourt" bread straight from the clay oven, and understand the rhythm of "slow life" that defines these mountain and coastal regions.

The Barbary Macaque: Particularly present in Ouzoud, it is the only macaque living outside of Asia. In 2026, strict protection programs govern interactions with tourists to ensure their health.

Medicinal Flora: The Atlas is an open-air pharmacy. Thyme, wild rosemary, and saffron are not just spices; they are the basis of traditional Berber medicine passed down through generations.

The Khattaras System: In the valleys, observe the ancestral irrigation canals. This hydraulic engineering allows for cultivating lush gardens in the middle of dry areas, a striking example of climate adaptation in 2026.
